“The Help” brings viewers into era of racism

The+Help+brings+viewers+into+era+of+racism

The Help is a comedy and dramatic film which takes place in a very controversy-filled era. It’s the story of how white women in the 60s treated their black maids. It focuses on the subject of racism, and when one white woman, with the help of an African-American maid, stands up to write a bestseller book about the way these white ladies treated their African maids, it changes the era.

The movie takes place in 1960 Mississippi and begins with a white college student who doesn’t quite fit in, Skeeter Phelan (Emma Stone.) She meets two African-American maids named Abigail Clark (Viola Davis) and Minny Jackson (Octavia Spencer.) Skeeter is interested on the views that these two maids have toward their life as a black maid working for very cruel and racist white women. Aware of the consequences, Skeeter writes a bestseller book about the many black maids and their life as maids for white families. This changes this era, and finally gives the black women to express their life during this cruelty.

The 2011 film has been nominated and awarded for 22 such as the awards for “Best actress,” and “BET for best movie.” The movie was directed and published by Tate Taylor. This is a must see that will insight all viewers and bring awareness onto that era.
