Jhene Aiko, a 32-year-old talented singer, and songwriter released an outstanding new album on March 6: Chilombo. The album was inspired by Hawaii volcanoes, which she likened herself to during the conception and recording of her album. She explains her album as an “eruption,” starting with a song that creates the flow throughout the entire album. The album has 20 tracks, all of which tell the story of a woman who falls in love with a man and winds up with her heart broken.
Chilombo features other talented artists, including Big Sean, H.E.R., Future, Miguel, Nas, John Legend and TY Dolla $ign. The album claimed number one on the top or R&B albums chart and peaked at number two on the billboard 200. In my opinion, the accolades are well-deserved. I am a huge supporter of Jhene Aiko, and I feel like this album has some of her best songs — it is by far my favorite of her three albums.
