If you’re a fan of Don Toliver then you will love his new album, Hardstone Psycho. In many opinions this newest album is his best one yet, consisting of twenty songs that all gained five stars, you’ll be sure to fall in love.
Each track has a special feel to it, with a mix of rap and rock and great lyrics to back it up. It truly is one of Don Toliver’s best albums, if not the best.
Starting with the star of the show, Don Toliver was great on this new album with each song. Unlike his last album “Love Sick” Don Toliver seemed to be more confident in using his voice and it sounds a thousand times better than “Love Sick’.
He starts the album strong with the song “Kryptonite.” The song is hypnotic, electric, and it really shows off Don Toliver’s style of music. He follows this up with a hit song “Tore Up.” This song has swiftly become an internet sensation on various platforms like Tiktok, Instagram, Spotify, Apple Music, and Youtube. His voice sounds as if he is leaving Earth, at least that’s what I feel when I listen to this song. It’s one of the biggest songs of the year and the way he rides the beat is what makes it so good for listeners.
He followed up these performances with “Glock” and “Deep in the Water.” Both of these songs being a bit slower than the ones before it but still being great performances from Don. The way he can make his voice ascend and descend is what makes the song so good for listeners like myself. Overall, Don’s performances have been consistent across the board and are a major upgrade from his previous albums, The features are also great and he matches them well. On “Brother Stone” we see Kodak black and Don together, though Kodak takes up most of the song, Don kills it with his part, making it sound like a true collaboration.
As a whole, this is one of my favorite albums. I think it lived up to the hype and deserves all the love it is receiving. It has a ton of replay value and as an album experience, I think it’s consistent and doesn’t have many lulls.
