Preparations are underway for students competing in FCCLA’s regional competition this weekend, with teams finalizing displays, practicing lines, and showing off finished projects to the public.

“Compared to my previous experiences, this year,s competitors will be able to go and win it all,” teacher Melissa Isaacs said. “Their projects are very informative and creative.”

On Wednesday, the group will travel to the convention in Galveston for contest events on Thursday and Friday.

“We’re the first ones to compete and it’s very nerve-wracking,” senior Carina Sanchez said. She is in an event called Entrepreneurship and created a business plan for a movie theater with partner Ernesto Dominguez.

There are 14 teams from BHS competing for a spot at state later in the spring.

“Friday is when competing really will start to pick up and get busy,” senior Lasundra Robinson said. “This makes me really nervous because we’re all competing for the same thing.”

Awards will take place on Saturday.

“Last year we almost made it to nationals,” said Itzel Velasquez. “My team is very excited and prepared to redeem ourselves.”
