Institute leader demonstrates interviewing tips

As students walked into the classroom, they were confused to see the lights turned off, the projector on, and an unfamiliar lady standing in the front of the classroom. She was dressed very nicely, in fashionable clothes, and was there to visit with the class about an opportunity for their futures.

Every career or business-related class was given a presentation by a representative from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise.

“When we first walked in accounting we were confused to see a lady dressed up very nicely,” senior Mckenzie Ryder said. “She then went on explaining to us how she was part of a program to inform students in possible interests with FIDM.

The rep spoke about the different campuses FIDM has, including locations in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Orange County and San Diego.

“I was not very interested in attending college there because I’m already attending Texas A&M next fall,  but it was cool hearing about their different campuses,” senior Tana Cleveland said. “All of the campuses were very high tech and innovated; you could really tell the school is for very creative students.”

Each campus offers classes to earn degrees in theatrical design, costume, film, business management, textile design and more.

“I’m somewhat interested in designing clothes, so it was cool learning that many students get this degree at FIDM campuses,” junior Samantha Pate said. “I’m still not sure about my after high school plans, but I’d love to keep FIDM in mind.”

The representative also spoke outside of FIDM-elated topics such as how to appropriately engage in a job interview.

“We were able to do a mock interview where I was able to showcase how a good interview should look,” senior Dylan Cornish said.  “I am not very interested in the school, but the representative was very helpful with explaining the difference between a good and bad job interview.”
