Carrie Marie Underwood is an American country music singer-songwriter who was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, in 1983. Underwood rose to fame in 2005 when she won the fourth season of American Idol. Since then, she has produced seven albums and won 170 awards, including seven Grammy awards.
Carrie Underwood is a great singer/songwriter. I have grown up listening to country music, so I have probably been listening to Carrie Underwood since she became famous. Over the years, I’ve listened to Underwood grow with her music, and there isn’t a song of hers that I don’t like. A few of Underwood’s new songs, such as “Cry Pretty”, “Love Wins”, and “Backsliding”, are different from her older songs, but they are still really good.
“You can’t hide it, you can’t fight what the truth is. You can pretty lie, and say it’s okay. You can pretty smile, and just walk away. Pretty much fake your way through anything, but you can’t cry pretty.” ~Cry Pretty
Carrie Underwood released her first studio album, Some Hearts, in 2005, which includes hit songs “Jesus Take the Wheel” and “Before He Cheats.” In 2007, Underwood released her second studio album Carnival Ride, which sold over 527,000 copies within its first week, and includes hits like “Last Name”, “So Small”, and “All American Girl.” In 2009, Underwood released her third studio album Play On, which sold 318,000 copies within its first week and includes her hit single “Cowboy Casanova.” In 2012, Underwood released her fourth studio album Blown Away. Blown Away sold 267,000 copies within its first week, and includes four hit singles “Blown Away”, “Good Girl”, “Two Black Cadillacs”, and “See You Again.” In 2014, she released her first compilation album Greatest Hits: Decade #1, which included a mixture of past songs that had been released, other songs which had never been released, and two new songs. In 2015, Underwood released her fifth studio album, Storyteller, which includes hit songs “Dirty Laundry”, “Smoke Break”, “Heartbeat”, and “Church Bells.” All of these albums have debuted at number one on the US Billboard Country chart, and have held one of the top spots on the Billboard 200.
A few weeks ago, Carrie Underwood released her sixth studio album Cry Pretty. Cry Pretty is the first album Underwood has released since she fell and had to have 40-50 stitches in her face. I think the song “Champion” from her Cry Pretty album perfectly describes her because she overcame many obstacles over the last year. This album is different from Underwood’s past albums, in the sense that there is a more personal feel to it, which I really like. I think that Cry Pretty is just as good, if not better than her past albums.
Cry Pretty, is a great album. If I had to rate it from 1-10, I would give it a 9. Don’t get me wrong I love the album, but there is one thing that I don’t like about it. I don’t like how some of the songs that are four minutes long are super repetitive. I just think that if a song is going to be four minutes long, that it shouldn’t be repeating the same things over and over again. There should be a little variation. Other than that, all of the songs are great. They have real meaning, express hardships that people go through, and shed some light on issues going on in the world. They are real, relatable, emotional, but there are also some fun and upbeat ones as well. Personally, I think the best songs from this album are “Cry Pretty”, “Drinking Alone”, “Love Wins”, “Backsliding”, and “Champion.”
“I am invincible, unbreakable, unstoppable, unshakeable they knock me down, I get up again. I am the champion. You’re gonna know my name. You can’t hurt me now. I can’t feel the pain. I was made for this, yeah, I was born to win. I am the champion.” ~Champion
If you are interested in purchasing Carrie Underwood’s Cry Pretty album, it is available in stores, or on iTunes and Amazon. I have never hated any of Underwood’s albums and that definitely isn’t starting now. I absolutely loved this album and would recommend it to anyone. If you don’t at least give this album a listen, then you are missing out.
