While students were anxiously waiting for winter break to arrive and open Christmas presents, the journalism staff buckled down for a writing workshop with Mikyela Tedder, covering lessons and tips to improve their feature, news, editorial and headline writing skills.

“I learned a lot when I attended the workshop,” Megan Wedhorn said. “It was just a day for journalism, and I feel like by attending it I’ll do better in UIL events.”

They meet from 8:00 until 3:00 at the library and eagerly listened to Tedder discuss news and editorial first before having chicken and cookies for lunch.

“It was a very nice learning experience,” Ashley Thunderhawk said. “It helped refresh everyone’s mind for UIL writing.”

After lunch, they continued with feature and headline writing before reviewing everything and wrapping up.

“I learned a lot from her,” Itzel Velazquez said. “It made me realize my writing wasn’t so great and helped me improve it.”
