EOC benchmarks predict improvement in ELA scores

EOC+benchmarks+predict+improvement+in+ELA+scores

As EOC exams approach, the staff is buckling down on tutorials and interventions for students in those classes. Tuesday, students in English 1 and English 2 took a simulated ELA test while US History students had special classes to get them ready for their EOC. Scores showed a marked improvement from last year’s scores.

“We were pleased with the results of the testing overall,” department chair Melonie Menefee said. “The most useful part of the practice test was that it gave us a chance to see where we can make changes that may help the students improve even more for the real test.”

The teachers have been working non-stop to teach and reteach in a way that will help the students improve not only their test scores, but their reading and writing skills overall.

“I know my students are ready,” English 2 teacher Martha Zimmerman said. “They are smart and good writers.”

As the real test draws closer, the students overall are feeling confident.

“ I’m pretty good at English,” sophomore Tana Cleaveland said. “I also think I’m a pretty good writer.”

Teachers spend the first semester of the year trying to teach students as much as they could to prepare them for the end of course exams.

“I’ve been working hard to prepare my students for the exams,” English I teacher, Anna Bailey said. “They are smart, and I think they’re prepared.”
