They walked on the field, shocked as the fans stood up in applause.

During halftime of the Friday night game against Hearne, students were announced for different award titles in cheerleading, Bison Belles, band, and football.

“It was really fun to see who won the awards for every event,” junior Melanie McGill said. “I think each winner deserved the award.”

Senior Nadia Garcia was announced Football Sweetheart.

“I was shocked when I heard my name being called out,” Garcia said. “I didn’t know there was such a thing, but I was grateful for it.”

Senior Shalyn Cotton was announced as cheer favorite.

“Our cheer squad is like a family, and I am very grateful to have had them throughout high school,” Cotton said. “It was very sweet for them to give me this award as my final cheer days come to an end.”

Seniors Shalyn Cotton and Nadia Garcia were named as cheer faves.

Cheer crew favorite was awarded to junior Riley Webb.

“I was unsure if I was going to get the award because being in cheer crew is tough, and all of us deserve an award,” Webb said. “But I was thankful for the votes.”

Belle line favorite was awarded to freshman Kayla Saenz.

“I felt very loved by all the Belles for voting for me,” Saenz said. “I was very nervous and excited at the same time.”

Officer favorite for Bison Belles was awarded to junior  Iveth Molina.

“I was shocked and happy at the same time; I felt proud of myself though, because it made me realize that my team looks up to me,” Molina said. “Winning the award makes me want to work harder in belles.”

Iris Valles was awarded Band Sweetheart.

“I was actually really happy and excited because it’s my second year getting it,” Valles said. “I really didn’t expect to get it.”
