The high school theater department hosted a two day One Act Play clinic for 3a-5a surrounding schools. The clinic had one judge who watched every performance, and gave an hour of critique and advice in order to better each school’s One Act Play performances for future competitions.

“I enjoyed hosting the clinic,” drama teacher Jill Henson said. “It’s a great opportunity for my students to see the good and the bad things in performances.”

Buffalo theater members were a huge part in the clinic; by helping each school carry props on and off the stage; some tech members also helped with light and sound for the school’s performances.

“I’m used to helping our theater department, so I knew how to help the other schools,” theater tech student Marybeth Helmcamp. “I think it’s a kind gesture just to lend a hand to others, and I know the schools appreciated the extra help.”

Some actors and tech crew members were also able to watch the different performances during school on both days of the clinic.

“I really enjoyed watching the different shows, they were all unique and interesting in their own way,” Taylor Lack said. “I also learned how to better my acting skills by watching the different actors voice variety and actions.”

Not only did Buffalo’s theater program host the clinic, but actually performed for the judge and received advice for this years One Act play, “MAD.”

“I think the performance was pretty good for being the first time we performed this year’s play in front of a judge,” Tate Slaughter said. “The judge gave us some really good ideas on how to make our play better; he definitely made us become open minded to changes.”
