Panic! At The Disco is back at the charts with a new album, tour, and music genre. The Pray For The Wicked album dropped June 22, 2018 and has been topping the charts ever since.

Brendon Urie, the last remaining original member of the band, took a chance and changed up the genre to something he enjoyed making. Urie never really had the chance to express himself fully and write by himself since he always had other talented writers around him like ex-members Dallon Weekes and Ryan Ross.

Death of a Bachelor, released January 15, 2016, was the first album he wrote himself. From there, the band’s genre changed from pop punk to purely pop with Pray For The Wicked.

I’m not too big of a pop fan, but this album has some pretty brilliant songs. The orchestra backtracks and the highest of high notes in the history of Panic! At The Disco did the album some justice. However, the lyrics weren’t as deep as past albums were.

The album had to grow on me a little before I could say I liked it. Some of my favorites include Roaring 20s, One Of The Drunks, Old Fashioned, Say Amen (Saturday Night), and Dying in LA.  

“Friends are happy for me or they’re honeysuckle phonies. They celebrate my medals or they want to take my trophies. Some are loyal soldiers while these other thorns are rosey. If you never know who you can trust, then trust me you’ll be lonely,” ~Hey Look Ma, I Made It, 2018

There are some truly inspiring songs on the album. Some encouraging you to follow your dreams and others inspiring you to get up and do something. The most powerful song has to be Dying In LA. It tells the story of a dreamer feeling excluded but little do they know, everyone else in LA is feeling the same and also trying to pursue their dream.

If you really give the album a chance and listen to the meaning of the lyrics, it’s a beautiful album. From the Sinatra influence to the powerful lyrics, Pray For The Wicked is amazing.
