Buffalo hosted a Christmas shootout tournament at the high school for the boys and girls. The tournament, which traditionally is held for the boys’ teams over the holiday, kicked off the month of December.
The Lady Bison started out rough, losing three of their games Thursday and Friday, coming up short against Onalaska on the first day of play and with narrow losses to Centerville and Springtown on Friday. The boys also lost against Gateway and Robinson on Thursday then picked up a win against New Waverly and a loss against Crockett on Friday. A second loss to Robinson finished off their hopes for a trophy.
The Ladies came back on Saturday with a win against Onalaska to make their way into the championship game. In the auxiliary gym, Springtown and Centerville played to see which one of them would also advance. Centerville took that win and they and the Ladies faced off for the trophy, with the Ladies taking the dub. Player Kaylee Rodriguez was very proud of how they played.
“The team went out and played in the morning even though we were kind of scared of how the outcome would have been; I’m glad that we went out and played our best,” she said. “We are a young team, but that doesn’t affect us in any way. I’m proud that we played together and made our coach happy.”
