With a cold start to the preseason after taking a scrimmage loss to Corrigan-Camden, the varsity is looking forward to their next opponent, Mexia. The scrimmage against Mexia will be at home and will have JV play first with varsity to follow after.
The players are hard at work to play against Mexia, who they haven’t played since the 22-23 football season. The coaches are excited to start a new football season with new opponents in the recent change of district for Buffalo.
“We have a lot of new opponents this season while we also have some old opponents like Centerville and Elkhart,” athletic director and coach Jamin Savell said. “It should be a good year and I think we can really solidify ourselves as a playoff-bound team.”
Looming close on the heels of the Mexia scrimmage is the big rivalry game against Centerville. Over the preseason the players have been preparing for this game alone and are excited to win against them.
“The start of football has definitely been a bit rough for us but these games are just scrimmages that won’t hurt us at all,” junior Hayden Shaw said. “These games are just to get us better and ready for the regular season.”
There have been a lot of new faces on varsity with several former eighth graders getting moved up. They are excited for a new start to their football career and can’t wait to get out and play.
“Varsity is a lot newer to me, it’s a lot more demanding and serious, but I have a lot of fun and I can tell I’m getting better,” freshman Darrel O’Shea said. “I can’t wait to see how this season goes and see how much I’ll do this season.”
