With the preseason coming to a close, the regular season is about to begin. Friday night lights are back and better than ever, and the Bison will kick off with their annual rivalry game against Centerville on Friday.
After a loss to Mexia by both the varsity and the JV teams, the coaches are preparing for the season and of course the long-awaited rivalry game. The talk has been all about Centerville and Buffalo, everyone is eager for Friday when they’ll match up for the battle of I-45.
“The rivalry has been a big part of Buffalo ever since I first came here,” athletic director Jamin Savell said. “The players and the students are all looking forward to it and I believe we’ll put on a show on Friday.”
Last year the Centerville Tigers were the victors of the battle of I-45, now Buffalo is out for revenge with a newfound vengeance. They are determined to win and prove everyone wrong.
“Last year was a growing year for sure,” sophomore Donte Lott said. “We’ve grown a lot since then and have a lot of great things going for us; this year we’re going to win.”
Throughout the rivalry week there has been plenty of talk back and forth, especially on social media. The Bison Insider staff put together a video downing the Centerville color of orange, which was promptly answered by Centerville with a video of their own.
“The video was an idea from Coach Savell. When he called me into the office for my own part I was a little confused and thought I was in trouble,” senior Joe Caceres said. “I had fun with my part and I’m sure Centerville got the message.”
The Bison will play in Centerville at 7:30. The coaches have prepared for the game and are ready to start the season off strong.
“There isn’t a doubt in my mind that we can win, our team has shown more grit and determination than Centerville has ever shown,” coach Jesse House said. “This is only the start and I look forward to seeing what else we can do this year.”
