It is halftime for the Lady Bison basketball game and a group of students holding items step onto the court. The auctioneer takes a deep breath and the bidding begins.

The junior class, sponsored by Melonie Menefee, held an auction at a recent basketball game against Teague. Organized by the junior class parents, the event helped raise money for prom.

¨Having a parent meeting helped spark ideas for fundraisers,¨ junior Mollie Dittmar said. ¨Having an auction was a great idea.¨

The class sold wreaths and poinsettias earlier in the year. They are behind on fundraising because their previous sponsor did not fundraise with them, so they are making up for lost time.

¨The class officers have been trying to come up with ideas because before this we didn´t have much money in our account,¨ junior Landon Folsom said. ¨It´s hard to raise enough money for prom when it´s around the corner.¨

Most of the items auctioned off were cakes and other baked goods, along with a gift certificate from Studio 75, a photo certificate from Ronda Simpson, and several spirit items.

¨They had good items at the auction,¨  junior Kenzie Simpson said. ¨I´m glad people bid. ¨

The class raised a total of $995.

¨This fundraiser was a huge success,¨ junior Andrea Daniel said. ¨I am thankful for all the people that helped with this.¨
