Student Spotlight: Sean Haycock

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

This is one of senior Sean Haycock’s favorite sayings because beauty can’t be judged objectively: it is up to each person on what they find beautiful. Haycock, the eldest of four, works to find beauty in the things he does at school, including working as the co-captain of the color guard and as a student in Art 4.

“My favorite class would have to be Art during first period,” Haycock said. “I get to make some really interesting things and I get more freedom to make what I want because this is my fourth year in art.”

The art class is painting mason jars as Christmas decorations or gifts along with many other projects.

“I have been really busy in art the past two weeks,” Haycock said. “We have had to make decorative mason jars, Christmas cards, present tags, a door decoration as a class, and Kaiden and I made the Grinch for the Whoville hallway.”

Haycock works with senior Garrett McAlpine in the color guard.

“Sean has gotten really good at color guard since we began,” Mcalpine said. “I have really grown to enjoy each practice with him because he works so hard and doesn’t give up.”

Haycock has been in color guard for two years and band for five.

“I was in band with Sean when we were in junior high,” senior Yzabel Salazar said. “We would always joke around and have a good time when we had the chance.”

Salazar said she and Haycock have been friends for 10 years.

“Ever since Sean and I met as kids we have been friends,” Salazar wrote. “I’m having mixed emotions about senior year because I’m going to have to leave all of my friends including Sean. I know we will all stay in touch though because we are pretty close and will have to visit each other a lot.”
