Powerlifting has started their season with a new coach by competing at a meet in Elkhart. There were four boys and three girls competing.
“There wasn’t many competitors from our team at the meet that day,” Coach Evan Stone said. “Even with a small team, though, we still did good.”
Three of the boys’ competitors brought back medals. Sophomores Logan Shaw and John Vaughn both placed first in their division and freshman; Asa Henson placed third.
“I was proud of myself for placing,”Sophomore John Vaughn said. “I personally feel have a lot to improve on.”
Coach Evan Stone has been made some changes to how the boys work out. He’s also working to help the program grow and become better.
“Coach Stone is a great powerlifting coach,” Vaughn said. “He’s helping out the program a bunch.”
Senior Taylor Lack brought back a medal for first place in her division and weight class. Senior Daniela Reyes and freshman Alex Grizzle also competed.
“I was a little overwhelmed because the girls in my weight class lifting more than I did,” Grizzle said. “On a scale of 15/10, I highly recommend powerlifting.”
Over all the team did well at the meet but didn’t meet coaches hopes. He said that as a group, they could have done better, and is sure they will in the future.
“I was expecting much more from the lifters,” Stone said. “However I know we can do better in the next meets.”
