Volleyball senior night, usually reserved for the last home game of the season, was moved up this year to avoid Friday night conflicts with football games. Five senior girls and their parents were introduced and received flowers. The girls said it was an emotional night for the team and the coaches. When the senior girls were in eighth grade, they gave their mom flowers, but now it’s the other way around.
“Senior year came a lot faster than I thought it would,” Kassidy Bell said. “I remember watching the seniors get flowers and walk out on the court during my freshman year just like it was yesterday, and now it’s us.”
Madison Rowan said it was a touching night because the parents and girls realized that they are about to be adults.
“I think we all realized that we are going out in the real world now, so it was really emotional for some of us,” Rowan said. “I am going to miss playing volleyball and it was great while it lasted.”
Bell said that even the coaches showed their feelings.
“I think what hurt the most was that even the coaches got a little emotional,” Bell said. “Even though they usually don’t show emotion because they are guys and want to be all tough, the coaches weren’t excited to let us go. I am going to miss coach Skelton a lot because he has been my favorite coach ever since seventh grade, and we could all tell he was sad.”
Volleyball senior night is just the first of many days and events dedicated to the seniors.
“I already got emotional on the first night dedicated to seniors, so I’m really not ready for the rest of them.” Rowan said. “I am excited to be a senior and senior night was really sweet, but I’m really going to miss high school and my team.”
