This week was full of hard-fought wins for the Buffalo Bison. The sports team have pulled some really exciting and close games.
“The game against Malakoff was very exciting,” junior Melanie McGill said. “We kept scoring and making good plays.”
Cross Country
The cross country team competed at the District meet earlier this week. Both Daniela Reyes and Jose Diaz are advancing to regionals after Reyes placed 10th and Diaz placed 5th. Other runners that were in the top 20 were Joel Avalos, 12th, Brandon Renteria 17th and Aaron Richards 20th. Both runners will compete in Huntsville on October 23.
“I am very proud of my hard work, pushing myself everyday was definitely worth it.” Diaz said. “This was my first year competing in the sport so I really wanted to make it a great season.”
Volleyball
The volleyball team had their fourth win of the season. They won three out of four sets against Malakoff. Players stated that they possessed good teamwork and good communication throughout the game.
“Our chemistry and communication was on point throughout the game.” Melanie McGill said. “We had eachother’s back. When one was off the other was on.”
The Lady Bison lost against Leon last Friday at home. They lost all three sets against the Cougars. The players stated that their mentality was down and they did not play with the best of their ability.
”We never seem to have a good game against Leon; we tend to make more mistakes and bad communication.” McGill said. “I think it has to do with our mentality because we always get down on ourselves.”
Football
The Bison took on the Marlin Bulldogs last Friday. It was a rocky start with with a 9-0 lead within the first three minutes. After halftime, the team got it together and pulled through to a 43-29 victory over the dogs.
“We were shocked that we did not start off well,” Roberto Garcia said. “The coaches kept telling us that we started off with a big head, but as the game progressed we settled down and played our brand of football.”
