Together as one.
The Lady Bison began district on September 8 with a loss against Elkhart, keeping their opponents on their toes for five sets. After playing and defeating both Crockett and Westwood, the girls took on Teague last week with three intense sets.
“Watching these girls battle and fight through each opponent is exciting, nerve-wracking, and impressive,” head coach Daryl Skelton said. “We have done better each and every game. In my opinion, these girls can beat the majority of the opponents in our district.”
Throughout these past four games the girls say their confidence has shot sky-high. Each game has seen them trying out new skills and improving their game.
“We have improved on our mistakes we used to make and we also figured out some new things that help us a lot in the game,” junior Avery Hardin said. “Because we figured things out, we feel so much more confident and we play with more confidence.”
Because their district picked up new opponents this season, the team has had to adjust their playing style.
“This year Franklin and Fairfield were added to our district. Frankston got taken away,” sophomore Abby Brewer said. “Those two teams are new, but we’ve seen them or played them – just not in district competition. We definitely are focusing on learning everything we can about them.”
The Lady Bison will play Groesbeck and Franklin this week.
“We are preparing ourselves more and more as we get further into district,” sophomore Alondra Dominguez said. “We watch a lot of film and constantly work on things we need to improve and things we need to do when we play a specific team.”
The girls are tied with Franklin. Whoever wins the match on Friday between the Lady Lions and Lady Bison will have earned that third-place spot.
“We don’t want to let playoffs slip out of our fingertips. We are going to work hard, play hard, and practice hard,” sophomore Laramee Champion said. “The fact that we are tied for third makes us have so much more hope that we can make it to the playoffs. Our goal is to make it to the playoffs. Now we are just hyped up about playing.”
