The Bison faced the Hearne Eagles last Friday for the District Championship game. This was the most anticipated game of the season because both teams were undefeated in district. Although the team came up short, it will still compete in the playoffs, with the first game Thursday at Athens.
“Since the beginning of the season we knew this would be the game to strive for,” junior Luis Porras said. “This was a very important game to win because the winner had better placement in the playoff bracket.”
The Bison led the first quarter 6-0 with a touchdown from quarterback Colton Green. The players said that they ran mostly an aerial game.
“We were so hype when we scored that first touchdown,” Porras said. “We just wanted to keep scoring more throughout the game.”
During the second half, Hearne came back strong, scoring three more touchdowns. The defense adjusted themselves in order to effectively stop them.
“Once they started scoring more, we had to adjust,” junior Chase Thompson said. “The defense had to spy the quarterback to stop him from running the ball when they showed pass.”
The players said that the change in their defense during the second half was not a good idea. They said it caused the opposing team to take advantage of the gaps.
“We ran army during the second half,” senior Ryan Rath said. “We should have stuck to what we were running during the first half because army gave them too many advantages.”
Later on in the second half, the game got more intense when the Bison scored more touchdowns. The fans were going crazy. In Fact the press box was shaking.
“We had very good support from the community,” sophomore Roberto Garcia said. “It feels really good to know that we have support and that fans are just as excited for the season as we are.”
