This week in Bison sports, the volleyball and football team faced big opponents. The Volleyball team is finishing their first round of district, while the football team is ending pre-district games.
Volleyball
¨The important games that will determine if we go to playoffs or not are coming up second round of district,¨ Junior Mckenzie Ryder said. ¨We know what we are going aginst now, so now it’s time to go out there and win.¨
Volleyball girls defeated Frankston this week with a 3-1 win. According to the girls, they communicated well and did their jobs to pull through and take the lead early on in the game. They said that once they started off strong, they were on a roll and there was no stopping them.
¨We had a guest speaker before the game who came to motivate us,¨ Junior Melanie McGill said. ¨It really got us pumped up and motivated to go out there and do work.¨
Varsity Football
The football team faced Groveton on Friday, defeating them 55-21. The team started off well early on in the game with a touchdown from quarterback Colton Green, and from there it was touchdown after touchdown. Other scorers in the game included James Phillips, Dirk Kilgore, Marshal Jonas, Jamaul Randle and Luis Porras.
¨We knew that this game would not be easy, so we had to take a lead early on in the game,¨ Junior Luis Porras said. ¨We did really good about scoring and holding them back.¨
One thing that really helped the players mentally prepare for the big game last week was the coaches reminding the players about last year’s outcome against the Indians. Players said that they focused their mindset early on in the week and were serious and focused during practice.
¨We were reminded about the embarrassing way we lost last year against them,¨ Porras said. ¨We were not going to let that happen again this year, so we got ourselves mentally ready for the game.¨
JV Football
The JV football team also came out with a win against the Indians. They defeated them 50-6 with touchdowns from Lance Pauler, Tyler Burk, Eric Beshears and Brett Hoffman.
¨We did really good during the game, it does not matter who we play, we go out there with the mindset that we are going to win,” freshman Lance Pauler said. ¨Our offense did a really good job of scoring.¨
Cross Country
Cross country did not have a meet this week but they are preparing for the district meet that is coming up in a couple of weeks. They will have a meet in Elkhart next week, which happens to be the same course for district.
¨The boys team is showing good results this year,¨ Junior Jose sanchez said. ¨Coach Rubel is really challenging us in practice to get us prepared for the district meet.¨
