Fifteen years after they won the 2A state basketball championship, the Lady Bison are heading back after beating out Teague on a buzzer beater in the regional final game.
While it is the same state championship, there are changes this year – the Lady Bison are now classified as 3A after the changes in UIL a few years ago, and the state tournament is now held in San Antonio instead of at The Drum in Austin.
“I am very excited; we’re making history,” team manager Josalyn Taylor said. “The team has worked hard, and they deserve it.”
The team left this morning for San Antonio amid send-offs on every campus.
“I’m very proud of the players; they did all the work,” Taylor said. “We’re ready for state, we’ve worked hard and came this far.”
The girls face Mount Vernon tomorrow in the semi-final round.
“No matter if we win or lose,” Taylor said, “I’m still proud.”
