Last week, German telecommunications regulators have warned parents of a certain doll in Germany that they say can create a privacy risk for children and families.

The doll, named My Friend Cayla, was created by a US company and is 18 inches tall with blonde hair and a pink clothes. The toy has an internal microphone that connects to the internet via Bluetooth to allow children to ask any questions for responses from the doll. However, telecommunications say that the toy violated privacy because it can actually listen to any conversation. Earlier this month, the Federal Network Agency, which oversees telecom-related topics, banned the doll, citing its “unauthorized wireless transmitting equipment” and pointed out that the doll’s bluetooth could easily be hacked.

Cayla is also being invesigated in the European Union, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland and Norway and has faced complaints and investigations in the US.
