The second annual Christmas Shootout was held during Christmas break with more than 30 boys basketball teams competing.
“The Christmas shootout gave us the ability to play with all sort of teams,” sophomore Dirk Kilgore said. “I really enjoyed playing with different variety of schools and seeing what type of game they had to bring.”
The team worked on specific plays and spent some practice time over the holiday to get ready for the tournament.
“We have been working hard this whole month to do well in the tournament,” sophomore Luis Porras said. “I don’t know how many times we went over the same play again and again and again.”
The boys held their ground and ended the tourney with a 3-3 record.
“We played really good teams,” Kilgore said. “Some of the games we lost were really close, and the games we won were by a landslide.”
The boys hope to make the tournament an annual tradition and improve their performance each year.
“The tournament was a great way for us to practice,” Porras said. “By next year we will be a much better team with a lot more knowledge on the court.”
