At 2:30 a.m., Atatiana Koquice Jefferson, a 28-year-old black woman, was shot and killed through her window early Saturday morning by Aaron Dean, a white police officer. On Monday night, Dean was arrested on a murder charge.
Jefferson’s neighbor, James Smith, called the police to check on Jefferson and her nephew after noticing that her doors had been opened for an extended amount of time. When police came to investigate, Dean fired his weapon after recognizing a threat.
