A deadly avalanche at Japan ski resort killed seven students and one teacher last week. A small ski slope on the side of Mount Nasu in Tochigi Prefecture was the location of the avalanche. The students were part of a mountaineering club and had been taking part in a climbing event when local police received a call about the avalanche.

Sixty-eight students and teachers were taking part in this event, and 40 people were injured, including two with serious injuries. 32 teachers and students were able to get down the slope to safety.
