Junior OT Garcia fights for the ball in a district game. The boys placed fourth in district after a tie-break game against Marlin; a loss in that games means the boys play first-place Franklin for the Bi-District game.

Changes in UIL rules this year now allow four teams into playoff spots once district play is over. This meant that when the Buffalo boys team tied for third with Marlin, the tie-breaker game was determined bracket seeding, but did not eliminate either from advancing to postseason play. The Bison took a loss, putting them in a tougher bracket to fight their way back from.

“We knew the game would be tough against Marlin,” senior Tyler Adams said. “We had won once and lost once against them and really wanted the third place spot.”

The loss Friday means that the Bison will face first-place Franklin for Bi-District. The game is scheduled for tonight at 6:00 at Leon High School.

“I’m excited about this game,” junior Kyrell Miller said. “Franklin will be tough, but if our shooting is good, we can win.”

This is the first time in four years that the boys have made it to the playoffs. For the seniors, though, this could be their last game.

“This could potentially be the last time I ever step on the court,” senior Jacob Davis said. “I’m not ready for it to be over and that just pushes me even more to do my best in this next game and give it all I have.”
