Neal Shusterman wrote the unique science fiction Unwind. The story takes place in the near future after a second civil war, the Heartland War, in the United States over abortion. To end the war, a compromise is made where parents are allowed to sign an order for their children, ages 13 to 18, to be unwound, which is where the children would be taken to “harvest camps” and have their body parts harvested for later use. The story also tells that if a parent was unable to raise their children to the age 13 they could “stork” the child by leaving it on another family’s porch; if they weren’t caught, the “storked” baby then becomes that family’s responsibility.
Shusterman continued the stories with a sequel, UnWholly, then a third book, UnSouled, and a fourth, Undivided. All the books are page turners that keep things interesting. The books are very realistic and showcase the horrors that could be lurking in our future.
In my opinion the books were very good and very interesting. The book is a well-written science fiction that was impossible to put down once I started reading.
