Buffalo junior Joey Maltos brought home a gold medal Saturday after leading the Bison to a sixth place finish overall in a field of 17 teams at the Malakoff power lifting meet.

The meet was the second of the season for the Bison, and featured 268 lifters from around the area.

“I am very proud of how hard our kids competed,” Buffalo head power lifting coach Jared Grubbs said. “They all improved on their weight totals from last week. I am looking forward to seeing what our kids can achieve next week in Palestine.”

Maltos took first place in the 242-pound division with 1,290 total pounds. He squatted 545, bench pressed 275 and dead lifted 470.

David McAlpine was third in the 132-pound class. He tallied 765 pounds, squatting 300, benching 155 and dead lifting 310.
