Into the Woods blends music and magic

After much advertising and anticipation, the Disney movie Into The Woods was released on Christmas Day, giving a modern twist to everyday fairy tales we have all heard as children. The movie’s plot is based  around a baker and his wife (James Corden & Emily Blunt) who are desperately trying to start a family. They are surprised to discover  that the neighborhood witch (Meryl Streep) has placed a curse on them, and the only way to reverse the curse is that they must go find a list of magical objects.

Desperate to find the items on their list and reverse the curse by providing what the witch needs to restore her beauty, they venture into the forest on a quest to find a milk-white cow, hair as yellow as corn, a blood-red cape, and a slipper of gold. During their journey, they meet Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Jack, each one on a quest to fulfill a wish.

It is all tied together as childhood fairy tale heroes and heroines Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Jack (Daniel Huttlestone), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford and Johnny Depp), and, last but not least, Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy) work to fix their own issues. Each have to go down a difficult and unexpected journey, consisting of crazy new sub-plots and everyone trying to find their “happily ever after”.

This heart-warming movie will fill viewers with amusement, curiosity and awe as  the movie goes on and everything unravels and falls right into place. The music winds its way through the film effortlessly, and the performers and the music blend together into a wonderful blend of theatre and music.
