Bison Theatre produced Southern Fried Funeral this fall and had two community performances leading up to the Thanksgiving break. The comedy hit all the right notes and drew tons of laughs from the audience. Set in a small southern town, the story revolves around a family facing an unexpected funeral that spirales into chaos, revealing all their quirks and drama.
“I was very happy with how everything turned out,” senior Ashtyn Barzda, who played mom Dorothy, said. “It was nice to see that all of our hard work paid off in the end. Even though I broke character during the play, I heard a lot of good feedback from the people who were able to come see us perform ”
The show was not without mishaps, but even the major ones, like Sammy Jo’s wig coming off mid-food fight, brought laughs, including to director Melonie Menefee
“I could see the wig slipping and figured it was about to go,” Menefee said. “I wasn’t sure how it would turn out once it went, but they played ot off perfectly and the crowd absolutely loved it. I laughed until my sides hurt.”
The audience seemed to have as much fun as the cast and crew did.
“The play was ridiculously fun,” teacher Kasey Wendel said. “I absolutely loved the family aspect of the story, and how everyone’s family is just a little bit crazy. We laughed so much we cried.”
