The Regional Congress meet in early November brought together students from all across the Region VI Educational Service Center to compete for a chance to advance to UIL State Congress in January. Buffalo students grabbed three of the top four spots in 3A and will have two state competitors.
“I was so excited to get the chance to compete at region and ecstatic to place second for my senior year,” senior Tristan Cole said. “I feel like all my hard work paid off.”
Junior Kaylen Sanchez placed first in the competition and will compete at the state level for the second year in a row. She is setting her sights on making finals and medaling.
“I’m super happy with how I did at the regional competition,” Sanchez said. “The preparation that went into it paid off, and I’m ready to prepare twice as much for state competition.”
Sophomore Genevieve Arabie placed fourth and is alternate to state.
Proud of her students, coach Melonie Menefee is excited to see them compete in Austin.
“State Congress is such a fun way to kick off the second semester,” Menefee said. “It’s a lot of work, and because of the timing we have to do a lot of that work over the Christmas break, but that work consistently pays off for BHS debaters. I’m excited to see what we can do this year.”
