Meet Genevieve Arabie, a powerhouse student who juggles multiple events like cheer, band, speech and debate, a variety of sports and still makes straight A’s. With a passion for performance and a knack for competition, she thrives in every challenge that comes her way.
“Genevieve is one of our best low brass players,” sophomore Kaleb Barzda said about his bandmate. “She’s always ready to go with an amazing attitude, and is constantly lifting people up.”
Speech and debate is one area that Genevieve thrives on competing as both an individual and on a team.
“Gen is a positive component to our team,” senior Tristan Cole said. “I enjoy the time I get to spend around her.”
Debate coach Melonie Menefee agrees.
“Gen brings a unique energy to our group,” Menefee said. “She is passionate about doing well and exceeding expectations, but she keeps us entertained as well.”
Having so much to do means that sometimes she has to make decisions between activities. This weekend was one example: when she was moved up to varsity basketball, she had a conflict with this week’s qualifier speech meet. Her basketball coach encouraged her to head to speech, since basketball was still in early games.
Genevieve is an amazing person,” coach Chuck Winkleman said. “The kids absolutely love her. She is like a sponge.”
Arabie says she can’t help but feel grateful for all the amazing experiences and memories she has had and said she wants to keep trying hard for whatever comes next.
“I hope to play varsity volleyball next year and to keep my grades perfect, as well as continue getting better in speech and debate,” Genevieve said. “I’m working hard now to get a state qualification and a national bid, as well. I want to get better with every competition.”
