With an infectious smile and contagious enthusiasm, junior Kaylen Sanchez is a bright light in our school community. From winning medals in Congress to perfecting her cheers on the Varsity cheerleading team, she is an excellent student and friend to many.
“I’ve been in debate with Kaylen since her freshman year, and the progress I’ve seen is impressive,” senior Tristan Cole said. “She always pushes herself to perfection.”
Sanchez proved this by qualifying for state and nationals in speech and debate in multiple events last school year: state in CX Debate and Congressional Debate, where she was a finalist, and nationals in Informative Speaking, where she also competed in Impromptu and advanced to out-rounds.
“Kaylen is a delight to have on the team,” coach Melonie Menefee said. “She is kind always and to everyone, and she works not only to get by but to excel. She has been a wonderful addition to our team.”
Sanchez was recently elected to be president of the junior class – again.
“I think that she is the perfect president,” junior Brock Corbitt said. “She always makes sure everything is organized–and overall, I just think she was born for this role.”
This dedication has definitely been noticed in the classroom as well.
“Kaylen is one of the most dedicated students I have ever had,” Menefee said. “She wants to understand how things work from the bottom up so that she can always be the very best she can be. She is a perfectionist who doesn’t stop trying when she doesn’t reach her goals – she just tries harder.”
