The Lady Bison volleyball team ended their season last week with their biggest challenge of all. With half of the varsity team quarantined due to COVID exposure, some of the JV players had to step up to take their place. The Lady Bison had trouble finding their momentum and playing together.

“We faced tough circumstances due to losing teammates to COVID, but we pushed through,” senior Josie Henson said. “It was very sad playing the last game without my whole team there, though. I cried after but I was thankful for my teammates being there and supporting me through these hard times.”

The girls lost to Franklin in three sets.

“I was so nervous and excited for our last game,” junior Aryonna Coleman said. “Even though I still have next year, it just won’t be the same without our seniors.”

It has been a long and hard season for the JV and Varsity teams. Rule changes to accommodate COVID have created challenges to the teams all season.

“I know it may seem silly to some people, but shaking hands before the game was something I loved because it was like you had each other’s back even though you were playing against each other,” sophomore Alison Bing said. “COVID took that away from us.”

Despite the challenges of the season, the Ladies were pleased with their experiences this season.

“I’m sad it’s over, but I’m glad it happened,” sophomore Alondra Domiquez said. “Even though we didn’t win our last game we still had a great season, and we got to spend it together, and that’s all that matters.”
