The powerlifting team started competitions this month, traveling to Waco to get started on their season. Competitors start at the squat and then move on to the bench press and the deadlift. Each contestant gets three tries before “bombing out.”
So far, team members are confident about their chances of placing and moving on into higher levels of competition.
“It’s not district yet, but when it is, they’d better watch out,” freshman Abel Salazar said. “If they think they can beat us, they’ve got another thing coming!”
With a weight of 1,370 pounds, senior Hector Dominguez took first place.
“He’s very committed to what he involves himself in,” junior Kendall Reynolds said. “He has excellent athletic abilities.”
