The UIL Math team traveled to Fairfield on Saturday to compete in an invitational. The team is preparing for district competition later next month.
“I am very excited for the district next month,” junior Jose Sanchez said. “We have all worked exceptionally hard all year trying to prepare for it and we have an exceptional coach.”
The team did an outstanding job by having several medalists. In number sense, junior Jose Sanchez placed first and the team consisting of Jose, Bailey Chase, and Sonia Dominguez placed second.
“I am extremely proud of the results the team had,” Sanchez said. “We have trained and practiced countless of hours in order to have successful results.”
In calculator applications, senior Sonia Dominguez placed second and the team consisting of Sean Haycock and Jose Sanchez placed third. In Mathematics Jose placed fourth and Bailey placed fifth, with the team placing second.
“In calculator, we need to work more on word problems, as well, as more geometry,” senior Sonia Dominguez said. “I believe that come next month we will be well prepared.”
Students said that they competed against their biggest district competitors at the invitational. They did exceptionally against Elkhart which is always one of the top teams.
“We actually did better than Elkhart,” senior Sean Haycock said. “We placed 2nd and they placed 3rd overall.”
