The rush of having to multiply numbers in her head. Finding the square root of 169.
Just trying to win.
Sophomore Bailey Chase felt this as she competed on the UIL mathematics team.
“I really enjoy competing in UIL academic events,” Chase said. “It’s pretty cool to compete in something I like to do.”
In addition to competing in UIL mathematics, Chase also competes in UIL science.
“I have always really liked math and science,” Chase said. “So it’s pretty cool to compete in these events in high school.”
Chase was not able to participate in these events her freshman year because her old school did not offer them.
“When I got here this year, it was really cool to see all the things they had,” Chase said. “I got to do a lot more things.”
Although Chase has been here for a short time, she has made impacts on the people around her.
“She is a really cool person,” sophomore Andrea Daniel said. “I haven’t known her long but she has been a really fun person to talk to.”
In addition to academics, Chase also participates in FFA competition.
“I have really liked FFA so far,” Chase said. “I have tried to compete in new things and so far I have really liked it. I have really liked coming to this school.”
