“We have a president who thinks that it’s okay to sexually assault a woman because he’s famous,” said Jackie Speier.
There has been a setback in the number of women who tell their story. Only 80% of victims who survive their assault come forward and tell about what happened to them. Chosen words by our president is pushing back the numbers of stories we hear.
Representative Jackie Speier and the leadership of the Democratic Women’s Working Group introduced the Title IX Protection Act. The bill is a response to the Trump administration rolling back Obama-era guidance addressing how schools manage sexual violence cases, a setback for survivors on college campuses.
Those who oppose the idea of the bill say those who are wrongly accused could be found guilty because the threshold for evidence was low under the “preponderance of the evidence” standard.
