After five years of being held in captivity, a family was finally released from a Taliban group. Wife Caitlan Coleman and husband Joshua Boyle were abducted by Taliban extremist while participating in a multi-nation backpacking trip. Coleman is American while Boyle is Canadian. Boyle was nervous about boarding a plane to Bagram Air Base because of his “family ties.” He was married to Zaynab Khadr, who is the older sister of Omar Khadr, Guantanamo Bay detainee, and daughter of an Al-Qaida financier.
A tip from the United States caused the Pakistanian raid that led to the family’s rescue. Neither Coleman or Boyle were wanted for federal crime. United States officials have said that other Americans have been abducted and are being held hostage by militant groups in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
