Her legs are bent, her Nikes are on and all the pressure is on her; she looks at the goal and she preps for the shot. She takes a final breath and she shoots the balls towards the goal. The crowd goes wild after the ball swooshes through the net.
Sophomore Samantha Pate participates in many extracurricular activities and basketball is one of them.
“My hobby is basketball,” Pate said. “I play all year round and I would not have it any other way.”
Cheer, volleyball, track, softball, and student council are other school extracurricular activities that she participates in other than basketball.
“Samantha has a great work ethic,” art teacher Amanda Harter said. “As a teacher I really appreciate that Samantha is always kind to others, she always has a smile on her face, and her demeanor is always positive. “
According to Harter, Pate is very artistic student and her work is always creative. She also is very helpful during class.
“She often brings in projects that she wants to complete when the required projects are completed,” Harter said. “Samantha is the first student to volunteer to help others in the classroom. I believe that makes her a great role model for other students and athletes.”
In her sophomore year, Pate has already heard from colleges.
“I have heard from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana and Louisiana State University,” Pate said. “My dream is to go to Baylor and play for Kim Mulkey.”
