In order to gain Russian and Chinese support, the Trump administration has drafted a resolution that weakens some of the penalties that would have been imposed on North Korea. The revised draft was sent to the members of the United Nations Security Council and negotiations were over the weekend.
The penalties include blocking some of the oil exports, but not all of exports. It also asks countries to inspect ships that are going in and out of North Korea’s ports, but the inspections must be approved by the countries where the ships are registered. The Security Council is expected to vote on the draft on Monday evening.
