New alt-rock band creates new sound
The Neighbourhood is an American alternative rock band that formed in August 2011. The band is composed of vocalist Jesse Rutherford, guitarists Jeremy Freedman and Zach Abels, bassist Mikey Margott, and drummer Bryan Sammis. Their first releases were two EPs: I’m Sorry… and Thank You. Their next stop was a full length album titles I Love You, which debuted last spring from Columbia Records. They recently toured with Imagine Dragons, and their song ‘Female Robbery’ was featured on the television show Twisted.
On I Love You, the Neighbourhood put together 11 moody, deep-thought-provoking rock tracks. The songs are interspersed with plenty of mechanical drums and processed vocals; even the guitar sounds that the album is full of are made to sound like synthesizers.
One of their most popular songs at the moment is “Sweater Weather” and it is a prime example of what most of their album is like – a mixture of sounds and textures, with prime lyrics that make up for the moments when the sound is a little amateurish. If music that is unique and full of atmosphere, then these guys are a band for you to check out.
