Every year, the elementary school hosts a Rodeo Day, full of activities for the younger students to participate in, as well as bringing horses to ride on. Students use this day to celebrate the cowboy heritage of Texas.
“This is my second year to participate in the event,” Makayla Gilliam said. “I love watching the kids have fun and the excitement in their faces.”
Teacher Wendy Neyland sends students every year to help out with the event, assigning them to a designated area. Students help manage games for the younger students.
“My station was helping kids hang up clothes on a clothes line,” Breannali Dominguez said. “To make it more fun, I had the kids do it as a competition, as to who could do it faster.”
There are a variety of games to play. For instance, they have saddling games, racing games, throwing balls at buckets, and even face painting. There is so much to do, younger students have half the day to go around and enjoy the games set up for them.
“There were so maybe variety of games for the kids to participate in,” Gilliam said. “It’s a great at for the kids to go outside and enjoy the memories.”
Most students that help out all agree that their favorite part of the event is seeing all of the kid’s face when they ride the horses. As well, as hear their laughter when they are running around enjoying themselves.
“It was a great experience not just for them but for the older kids as well,” Dominguez said. “It brought back so many memories.”
