Michael Flynn quit as President Donald Trump’s national security adviser on Monday night. He suddenly resigned after the Justice Department informed the white house that he could be subject to blackmail. Flynn’s resignation comes after it was discovered he misled Vice President Mike Pence and other senior officials about his communications with Russia’s ambassador to the United States prior to the inauguration.
Flynn’s discussion with Russia’s ambassador was apparently a breach of the Logan Act. The Logan Act is “is a United States federal law that details the fine and/or imprisonment of unauthorized citizens who negotiate with foreign governments having a dispute with the United States.” However, a senior intelligence official said that there had been no findings of Flynn doing anything illegal at this point.
