A 15 year-old student from De La Salle was arrested on Dec. 1 for allegedly assaulting a young girl after a football playoff game. USA Today reported that the accused’s father insisted that his son is tall, dark and handsome, and that “when young, fast girls see something they like, they go after it.”
According to the Huffington Post, the father himself is a registered sex offender. He also stated that his son was innocent, and insists the victim gave her consent.
The teenage girl, however, along with her father, have advocated for other students and parents to address and talk about sexual assault. The young girl told San Francisco CBS affiliate KPIX “It’s not okay for this to happen to anyone. And it’s not okay for people, like society, to feel like the person that’s been hurt, that they’ve done something wrong to feel ashamed about the situation … Boys need to know that no means no, period. Point blank.”
