FCCLA held their food drive this fall and introduced a new way to persuade students to bring more canned goods and have fun while doing it. The first period classroom with the most canned goods was rewarded with an ice cream party. The drive was held on the elementary, lower junior high and high school campuses.
“Everyone loves ice cream,” senior Hannah Eakin said. “I think the drive reward was a perfect idea to get everyone to contribute more.”
The drive began last month. All of the campuses combined raised about 2,000 cans for people in need.
“We had a great turnout,” teacher Wendy Neyland said. “We collected more cans than I thought we would.”
On the elementary campus, second grade teacher Rebecca Brewer’s first period class won. At the lower junior high, third grade teacher Leslie Morman’s took first place and for the high school, art teacher Amanda Harter’s class won.
“Mrs. Harter knew how to play her cards right,” junior Denise Wall said. “She offered extra credit to anyone who brought cans for her class.”
