FCCLA traveled to Dallas carrying 7 teams to the state FCCLA leadership conference.Three teams placed at the conference: Taylor Adams with Life Event planning placing third, Makayla Gilliam and Jarrett Fishbeck in Promote and Publicize FCCLA placing sixth, and Brianna Johnston, Natalie Freeman and Kynlee Driskell placing first with the Shattered Dreams project, advancing to nationals this summer in San Diego, California.

“I am very excited for all of them,” advisor Wendy Neyland said. “Not only did they advance, but they all also received a $4,000 scholarships if they decide to go into a consumer science field and attend Texas Tech.

Their project was based around the two-day drinking and driving program that the FCCLA hosted the week of Thanksgiving. It incorporated a mock crash and a lock-in for those involved in the activities.

“All the work that we all put into Shattered dreams has payed off,” Johnston said. “The fact that we are advancing is so amazing. It was the perfect way to end my senior year.”

The group will head to San Diego this summer for the National FCCLA leadership conference.

“When I found we were going to be able to go this summer, I was in shock,” Freeman said. “I can’t wait for California; it’s going to be so much fun.”
