Forensics spent lab time recently identifying blood types left at an imaginary crime scene. Each group was given a sample of blood and were expected to identify the type of blood.

“The class covered an entire chapter about blood before we did the lab,” teacher Patrice Cox said. “The kids did really good, and I think it really caught their interest.”

Although a suspect’s blood might match the blood at the crime scene, it does not mean that the suspect and the criminal are they same person. What the lab did was narrow down the number of suspects.

“Really beats doing book work and learn how crime experts find criminals,” senior Nathanael Young said. “We mixed chemical to find out the blood type, and with the help of Mrs. Cox it was fairly easy.”

Many students enjoyed the lab and really got a lot from it.

“It was pretty cool to be able to do such a hands-on lab,” senior Diana Avila said. “All groups had the same suspects, and the labs that we do tend to be a lot of fun.”
